Fluorescence thread, UV light, Motor
Flexible D:35m x W:35m x H:1.5mAfter
This work that was exhibited at the Amsterdam Light Festival allowed the viewers to experience an unsubstantial space. It was composed of a vibrating device, Thuorescent threads, and ultraviolet lighting. Approximately a hundred white pieces of thread, each thirty meters long, emitted fluorescent light that covered the entire exhibition space. Each thread that vibrated at high speed reacted to the ultraviolet lighting and emitted a bluish color. Thus, the vast, wave-like movements of lights that occurred before the viewers’eyes did not actually exist in that space. Rather, those images were afterimages that only existed in their eyes or brains. In other words, there is no such thing as a true appearance, for what we see are appearances that our bodies, acting as mediums, have captured. (T. N.)
