Cold heat, water flame

Photo: Yasuhiro Chida

The gallery is filled with water in order to make artificial rain and fog. The stroboscopic afterglow effect makes it appear as if particles of light are floating throughout the entire gallery. In the center is a path that  disappears into the water, allowing visitors to experience walking through these floating light particles. Thanks to the lighting, the fog takes on a more material appearance, rendering the border between phenomenon and material, and light and darkness, more ambiguous. <D.W>

Space of Moment

Rain falls inside a room in a grid pattern. Thanks to the stroboscopic lighting, the water droplets float in midair at equal intervals, allowing us to perceive the space as a result of the presence of these light particles. This exceedingly short span of time, which can practically be called an instant, is recognized as a space. If eternity exists, perhaps it is to be found in terms of a notion that is different from that of the passing of time: within the space of a moment located on a non-temporal axis. <D.W>
